Let’s start with the basics: what are landing pages, and why should you use them?
Landing pages are the pages your visitors are taken to after clicking a call-to-action on your website, blog, offer or ad. Instead of sending all your visitors to your homepage where they might get lost, you should send them to a page where you have a special message designed according to the ad your visitors clicked to get there.
You should use landing pages because it’s been proven that their use will boost your conversion rates.
1. Use the same copy in ad and landing page
You need to have the same message in your ad and the headline of the landing page. When people click an ad they will automatically expect to see the same thing on the page that follows the click. If the ad is about a discount and the page they are taken to is a general homepage that doesn’t say anything about the discount in the headline, you can consider your visitors lost.
2. Use a clear message
The headline message should be very clear because it’s the first thing people read on any page. They might not give your page a second glance if you haven’t caught their attention from the first sentence - so have a clear and specific headline.
Test different messages and layouts to see what is more effective. You can change the text, colors, photos, buttons - anything that might have an impact on your visitors, but always keep the most important things on the top of the page.
4. Remove menu and links
Remove all navigation and all links - they will just invite people to navigate away from your landing page where you want them to be.
5. Offer an incentive
Offering an incentive is always a good ideea - sample, free download, discount. When you’re offering something valuable in return for people’s click, the chances are higher that they will perform the click action.
